I finished Inktober 2025! And I am very proud of myself!
FYI: Inktober is an annual month-long drawing challenge in October started by Jake Parker in 2009.
Here’s some things that helped me:
I started quite early, around beginning of September.
I did not pressure myself to make perfect drawings. The main aim was to maintain a daily drawing practice, for a month.
Ok, fine, I did not draw daily. But it was almost daily. Good enough.
Starting early gave me some flexibility. For instance, I could pick and choose whatever prompt I wanted, instead of going in chronological order.
Thematically, I was also flexible. I drew whatever felt right. Sometimes it was deep, sometimes it was silly, sometimes it was just whatever what was current to that day. Whatever, just draw!
I did not pressure myself to post a drawing I didn’t like. Again, the main intent was just to maintain a daily drawing practice, as Jake Parker had originally intended. Muscle memory is super important for us artists. I posted most of my Inktober drawings anyway.
